This is not a grouch amusement park

You probably shouldn't trust every web site you see on TV.

Update (2/28/02) Sesame Workshop has contacted me and I am in the process of transferring the domain to them. This page will accordingly cease to exist soon.

If you are a child: Remember that web pages are made by lots of people, some of whom aren't very nice.

If you are a parent: Good for you for looking at what web pages your children are visiting. Bad for you if your kid saw this first.

If you are a television writer: Don't use a web address that isn't registered, and don't trust the internet to be safe viewing.

And if you are the Children's Television Workshop: Contact me and I'll give this site to you so you can keep reruns safe.

An explanation: Flipping channels, I came across one of the shows that I loved as a child, Sesame Street. It's been running for many years, but has always strived to keep up with the times.

In today's episode (2/26/2002) Oscar the Grouch was shown watching a television ad for a Grouch amusement park (an abusement park? annoyment park?), and a web address was given: www.yuckyworld.org . I thought it was funny, and decided to see what they'd put up for this.

Turns out they hadn't put anything up. Turns out they hadn't registered the site at all. Turns out that any random person could just go out and register it and put whatever they wanted on it.

I think this was a bad idea.
